Wildlife Adaptation Menu

September 21, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies

The real-world application of climate change adaptation in wildlife management has been slowed by a lack of practical guidance for managers. In this webinar, the speakers will share a ‘menu’ of tiered adaptation actions for terrestrial wildlife management to translate broad concepts into actionable approaches to help managers respond to climate change risks and meet desired goals. The menu includes actions related to managing wildlife populations as well as managing wildlife habitat. The resource was designed to be used with the Adaptation Workbook, a structured decision-support tool for climate adaptation.

This presentation will describe the development of the Wildlife Adaptation Menu and highlight real-world examples in which managers have used the menu to integrate climate adaptation considerations into wildlife management and conservation projects. The speakers will also discuss how the Wildlife Adaptation Menu might be useful to large-scale efforts such as State Wildlife Action Plans.

The Speakers

Chris Hoving is the statewide Adaptation Specialist for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division. He is the program lead on issues related to conserving wildlife in an era of climate change. Chris also helps coordinate the Michigan Climate Coalition, the MAFWA Climate Change Committee, and other regional networks. He recently completed a PhD at Michigan State University. Ask him about his recent cross-country road trip!
