Position Information

Key Responsibilities: Decision Modeling for Climate Adaptation Planning
Detailed Description: Design, test, and interpret multi-attribute optimization models to support climate adaptation and planning for the management of cultural resources (e.g. historic buildings) at two National Park Service sites. Work in close collaboration with the Southeast Climate Science Center and USGS decision analysts (Dr. Mitch Eaton and Dr. Max Post van der Burg). Some travel required for on-site data collection at park sites and for on-site collaboration with off-site USGS decision analysts. Collaborate with social scientists in refining valuation frameworks and cost estimates for management actions, as well as the evaluation of expected effects of management actions. Assist or lead in writing grant proposals, technical and non-technical reports, fact sheets, other public-audience deliverables, and peer-reviewed journal articles. Lead and collaborate in web-based trainings. Office space will be provided in the Southeast Climate Science Center, located on NC State University’s main campus in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Master’s in Computer Sciences, Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, or a Natural/Cultural Resource Science field. Familiarity with decision science and knowledge of optimization algorithms, including globally optimal and heuristic methods, strongly preferred. Computer programming skills required, ideally with proficiency in R or C++. Demonstration of strong publication record (as lead or contributing author), including technical reports, fact sheets, and peer-reviewed journal articles will be an important factor in the selection process. Educational or work experience related to federal agency research or management preferred. Experience working with stakeholder groups considered beneficial, but not required.
Salary: $40,500-47,500
