Kyla has had an interest in science since around the age of 5 and attended North Carolina State University to pursue her interest in environmental and climate science. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Communications Media at North Carolina State University in May 2012 and her master’s degree in Climate Change and Society in August 2018, also at North Carolina State University. Kyla relies upon her communications experience to serve as a liaison to ensure that climate science is communicated and understood by the public at large.

Kyla has experience effectively developing and executing communication goals/strategies across groups including organizations and businesses as well as stakeholders and individuals. Prior to her position as Science Communications Specialist at the Southeast CASC she spent 6 years working with public and private companies as an editorial manager assisting with the dissemination of press releases. Kyla also completed a capstone project with North Carolina Sea Grant while completing her master’s degree, which encompassed developing a clear education and communications strategy in conjunction with the climate resiliency needs of the Town of Nags Head located in the Outer Banks region of North Carolina.
